ALVECHURCH began pre-season with comfortable victories against Hednesford Town and Gornal Athletic respectively.

Church claimed a 3-1 victory against Hednesford at Lye Meadow after beating Gornal 2-0 in their first pre-season fixture at Bromsgrove School.

Against Hednesford, Church broke the deadlock on seven minutes as a trialist saw his effort deflect against the post and roll across the face of goal with Tope Obadeyi quickest to turn home the loose ball from close range.

Church doubled their lead three minutes after half time when a trialist latched onto a through ball and coolly lifted a shot over the Hednesford goalkeeper when one-on-one.

The visitors halved the deficit on 61 minutes as veteran striker Jake Jervis curled a fine first time effort into the bottom right corner from 15-yards out.

Church then had Kyle Storer sent off for a challenge on Joe Doyle-Charles who also saw red for his reaction to the tackle.

And Hednesford finished the game with nine-men after Dominic McHale also picked up a second yellow card eight minutes from time.

Church restored their two-goal lead with two minutes left to play as Kieran Wakefield finished through the legs of the goalkeeper after tireless work from Shay Willock down the left.

That came after goals from Jonathan Ngandu and Krystian Pearce sealed victory for Church against Gornal.

Alvechurch are next in action against Rugby Town on Saturday, July 19 with kick-off at 3pm at Butlin Road.
