ALVECHURCH slipped to a 2-0 home defeat against league leaders Harborough Town as the Bees took a giant step towards the title.

Second-half goals from Brady Hickey and Eliot Putman condemned Church to defeat at Lye Meadow.

The result means Alvechurch sit 16th in the Southern League Premier Central table, five points clear of the relegation zone.

After a goalless first period, Harborough broke the deadlock on 59 minutes when Hickey headed home after Alex Morris flicked on a long throw from the left at the near post.

And the visitors sealed the points five minutes from time as Putman lashed an unstoppable effort into the net from 25-yards out via the underside of the crossbar.

Alvechurch are next in action St Ives Town on Tuesday, March 24 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Lye Meadow.
