TIM Flowers felt his Alvechurch side showed ‘courage’ to earn a come-from-behind 3-1 victory against play-off chasing AFC Telford United.

Church fell behind to Matty Stenson’s penalty only for Joe Willis to draw the home side level before a brace from Dylan Allen-Hadley completed a fine comeback at Lye Meadow.

The result means Alvechurch sit 13th in the Southern League Premier Central and Flowers insists his side are heading in the right direction.

Flowers said: “I thought we were way off it in the first half, we were second to almost everything.

“At the time they scored the penalty, alarm bells were ringing for me, I didn’t like what I was seeing.

“We showed a lot of fortitude and courage, rather than feeling sorry for ourselves, we had a spell of concerted pressure which ended with us scoring.

“It’s a fantastic result, in terms of winning football matches and picking points up, we’re going in the right direction.

“There’s plenty of bits we need to improve on but I can’t fault any of the players for their attitude, work ethic and commitment.”

The visitors won a penalty on the half-hour mark when Ammar Dyer fouled Ellis Brown in the box and Stenson drilled the resulting spot kick into the bottom left corner.

However, Church responded well to the setback and drew level on 38 minutes as Willis’s deflected shot found the bottom left corner with Telford goalkeeper Brandon Hall wrong-footed.

And the home side completed the turnaround on the stroke of half time as James Armson tripped Sam Perry in the box and Allen-Hadley confidently converted from the spot.

The hosts extended their lead five minutes after the break when Shay Willock flicked the ball into the path of Allen-Hadley who finished past Hall.

Church have now won their last three league games while Allen-Hadley has scored six goals in his last three appearances.
