ALVECHURCH conceded twice in injury-time to suffer a remarkable 4-3 home defeat against Real Bedford in midweek.

Church raced into a two-goal lead at Lye Meadow courtesy of strikes from Kieran Wakefield and Tope Obadeyi.

However, Ben Stevens halved the deficit for Bedford before the break while Josh Allen’s late goal levelled the contest.

The home side responded to reclaim the lead three minutes from time when Zac Guinan scored his first goal for the club.

However, Bedford staged a stunning late turnaround as both Conor Tee and Tom Hitchcock found the net in stoppage time to leave the hosts shell-shocked.

The result means Alvechurch sit 17th in the Southern League Premier Central table, two points clear of the relegation zone.

Church broke the deadlock on 22 minutes when Wakefield forced Guinan’s cutback past Craig King from six-yards out.

And Alvechurch doubled their lead two minutes later as Guinan squared the ball to Obadeyi who coolly placed a first time shot into the bottom left corner.

However, Bedford responded five minutes before half time when Stevens played a one-two with Shaheim Ward and lashed a shot across goal into the bottom left corner.

The visitors drew level on 82 minutes as Allen turned home Josh Setchell’s lay-off from close range following a deep cross from the left.

A dramatic conclusion to the match began five minutes later when King misread the flight of a long ball and Guinan pounced to finish into an empty net.

However, Bedford equalised three minutes into injury time as Tee cut in from the left and curled a shot into the bottom right corner from the edge of the penalty area.

And the visitors stunned Church less than a minute later when Hitchcock controlled a cross from the right and lashed a powerful shot into the net from 12-yards out.

Alvechurch are next in action against Needham Market on Saturday, February 28 with kick-off at 3pm at Lye Meadow.
