ALVECHURCH paid the penalty for a number of missed chances after exiting the Birmingham Senior Cup via a shootout against Boldmere St Michaels.
After a 1-1 draw in regulation time, Germaine Agustien’s missed penalty proved decisive as Boldmere scored all five of their spot kicks at Lye Meadow.
The home side made a bright start as Ammar Dyer had an early shot saved only for Boldmere to take the lead on 24 minutes as a poor backwards header allowed Ryan Boothe to lob the ball into the net.
Dyer went close again later in the half, shooting narrowly over the bar before Abel Alabi saw his header cleared off the line.
And after more chances went begging in the second period, the returning Nick Clayton-Phillips levelled the game on 74 minutes, finishing on the rebound after the keeper kept out Dyer’s initial effort.
The second round tie went to penalties as Agustien blazed over Church’s first spot kick in what proved to be the only miss of the shootout.
Alvechurch are next in action away at Bromsgrove Sporting on Tuesday, November 21 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Victoria Ground.
