JAMES Fry was happy with his side’s reaction after Alvechurch returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory against 10-man Stourbridge.

Jaanai Gordon’s 49th-minute penalty settled the game at Lye Meadow while the visitors had Niall Flint sent off for two bookings after he gave away the spot kick.

And Church boss Fry praised his side’s mentality in response to suffering a heavy defeat against St Ives Town last weekend.

Fry said: “I’m happy overall, I demanded a reaction straightaway after the performance last weekend, once we settled down we had really good control in possession.

“We eradicated the nonsense that crept into our game last week, we mentioned the right back was on a yellow card and we spoke about getting the ball down that side.

“I would have liked us to have taken the game away from them but we didn’t, they stuck in the game, we missed a hatful of chances.

“The mentality was tunnel vision and really focused, I knew we wouldn’t allow ourselves to get beat easily again, we can’t turn that on and off, that has to be every single week.”

After a goalless first period, Flint tripped Dylan Allen-Hadley in the box and received a second yellow card as Gordon kept his cool to send the goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot.

The result means Church sit 13th in the Southern League Premier Central table, 12 points clear of the relegation zone.

Alvechurch are next in action at home to AFC Telford United on Tuesday, March 19 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Lye Meadow.
