JAMES Fry felt his side deserved more after suffering a first defeat since his appointment as Alvechuech boss away at AFC Telford United.

Jordan Piggott’s goal on 18 minutes proved decisive as Church saw their four-game winning run come to an end at New Bucks Head.

The 1-0 defeat means Church sit 13th in the Southern League Premier Central table and Fry insists his team have plenty of room for improvement in the coming weeks.

Fry said: “We deserved to get something out of the game, we created loads of moments but that’s where we’re still learning, we got into some really good positions but didn’t test their goalkeeper.

“It’s not the end of the world, we’ll dust ourselves down put this one to bed and start preparing for Coalville.

“We’ve got areas that we need to improve on but we’re still building from that solid base, our out of possession shape is pretty good, we can make that even better so we’re more of a threat.

“Even in the moments where Telford were on top, we were in the game and if put away one or two of our chances we’d be coming away with some points.”

Piggott scored the game’s only goal early in the first half, firing home in off Brad Foster’s left-hand post from 15-yards out.

Alvechurch are next in action at home to Coalville Town on Saturday, October 28 in the FA Trophy with kick-off at 3pm at Lye Meadow.
