FOOTBALL - Cameron at the double as Redditch United too strong for Royston

ALEX Cameron scored twice as Redditch United secured back-to-back home wins in the league with a 3-1 victory against Royston Town.

Cameron started and completed the scoring for the Reds after Reece Flanagan restored the home side’s lead following Kian Harness’s equaliser at the Valley Stadium.

And the result means Redditch sit fifth in the Southern League Premier Central table, inside the play-off places on goal difference.

Redditch took the lead on 15 minutes when Cameron bundled home Flanagan’s cross from the right at the near post from close range.

However, Royston drew level at the start of the second period as Harness exchanged passes with Samson Esan before finding the bottom left corner.

The home side restored their lead on 55 minutes when Flanagan curled a delightful free-kick into the top right corner of the goal from 20-yards out.

And the Reds sealed the points on the hour mark as Cameron volleyed Danny King’s cross into the ground and past the despairing dive of Royston stopper Louis Chadwick.

Redditch are next in action away at Radcliffe on Saturday, December 9 in the third round of the FA Trophy with kick-off at 3pm at Neuven Stadium.
