JORDAN Cranston praised his side’s mentality after the Redditch United captain played a starring role in a 2-1 derby win away at Bromsgrove Sporting in midweek.
Cranston scored the winning goal from the penalty spot after setting up Musa Ceesay for the opener at the Victoria Ground.
Bromsgrove drew level through Reece King’s strike but Cranston insists his side’s strong mentality proved the difference as the Reds ended their four-game winless run.
Cranston said: “It was a positive performance, we’ve had a little bit of a blip in front of goal and conceding early in recent games.
“We scored early and we built on that, we had a good first half and then were under pressure in the second half.
“We’re stronger mentally throughout the team and that’s what got us the three points. I’m buzzing to score the winner.
“It’s just about being confident in yourself, as captain you’ve got to stay level-headed and keep the team together.
“We needed to put in a performance for the fans and we did that.
“We’ve got a good crowd backing us home and away and they sung their hearts out better than the home crowd.”
The win was Redditch’s fifth successive derby triumph against Bromsgrove having completed a league double over their rivals in each of the last two seasons.
And the result leaves the Reds sixth in the Southern League Premier Central table, three points behind leaders Stamford with a game in-hand.
Redditch are next in action against Halesowen Town in the FA Trophy on Saturday, October 5 with kick-off at 3pm at the Valley Stadium.
