FOOTBALL - Fry frustrated by manner of goals conceded as Alvechurch lose at home to Stourbridge

JAMES Fry branded the goals Alvechurch conceded in a 2-1 defeat against Stourbridge as ‘absolutely criminal’.

Strikes from Souleyman Mandey and Toumani Sidibe either side of Dan Sweeney’s equaliser condemned Church to defeat at Lye Meadow.

The result leaves Alvechurch eighth in the Southern League Premier Central table. Fry was left frustrated by the manner of Stourbridge’s goals.

Fry said: “For all of our good spells we rocked for 15 minutes in the second half and had to change what we were trying to do.

“We got some stability back in the game, we were better with the ball but defensively I’m really disappointed.

“Defensively we’ve conceded goals which should never happen, the two goals we conceded are absolutely criminal.

“We left the back door open, we’ve got to marry the performance together.”

Stourbridge broke the deadlock on 17 minutes when Mandey controlled goalkeeper Ollie Taylor’s ball in-behind the Church defence and confidently finished past Ronnie Hollingshead,

However, Church equalised just two minutes later as Sweeney lifted a shot over Taylor into the left corner.

The visitors reclaimed the lead two minutes before half time when Sidibe flicked Jordaan Brown’s pass into the air before lashing a superb volley into the net.

Alvechurch travel to Spalding United on Saturday, October 5 with kick-off at 3pm at the Sir Halley Stewart Field.
