INKBERROW Eagles Girls under-16s suffered a heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat against Stourbridge in the CWGFL League Cup final.
The Eagles raced into a two-goal lead thanks to a brace from Isla Wall who produced two tidy finishes to put Inkberrow in command.
However, Stourbridge staged a remarkable comeback to take the lead only for Millie Papper to equalise from the penalty spot for Inkberrow and send the game to a shootout.
Inkberrow just fell short on penalties, losing 4-3 in the shootout, in a thrilling final at Evesham United’s Spiers and Hartwell Stadium.
Under-16’s manager, Anthony Simpson, said: “The team were an absolute credit and every one of them worked so hard.”
The Eagles moved leagues at the start of the season and played in the Central Warwickshire Premier League this campaign.
Inkberrow also reached the semi-finals of the Worcestershire FA County Cup where they also lost on penalties.
Elsewhere, the club’s under-14’s girls team won the Worcestershire FA County Cup final with victory against West Worcester Youth.
The under-14’s are also one point away from becoming champions and are due to play Droitwich this weekend (Saturday, May 18).
Inkberrow has had a successful girls’ section for over 12 years now and its ladies’ team, who are in their fourth season, has enjoyed success in the FA Cup.
Inkberrow is an England-accredited three-star club and also signed up to the Kick it Out equality charter supporting inclusivity and diversity.
