SPORTING Club Inkberrow saw their nine-game unbeaten run in the league come to an end following a 2-1 defeat away at Devizes Town as the visitors finished the game with 10-men.

Despite taking the lead through Will Skelton’s goal, Sam Hart’s second-half dismissal turned the game in the home side’s favour as Devizes struck twice late on to take the points at Nursteed Road.

The result means Inkberrow sit fourth in the Hellenic League Division One table, six points behind leaders Malmesbury Victoria with a game in-hand.

Inkberrow broke the deadlock on 16 minutes when Skelton reacted quickest to turn home a loose ball after the Devizes keeper could only parry Luke Allcock’s shot from distance.

Skelton went close to doubling his tally for the game, heading over from close range, before Tom Nicholls made a superb save at the other end to keep the visitors in front.

However, the game turned on 65 minutes when Inkberrow defender Hart saw red for fouling the last man on the halfway line as Devizes threatened to break.

The home side eventually equalised on 80 minutes through Jonathan Bazley’s close-range finish from a corner.

And Devizes completed the turnaround three minutes later as Luke Hopper finished well to bring an end to Inkberrow’s long unbeaten run in the league.

Inkberrow then suffered a 4-0 defeat away at Midland Premier Division side Stourport Swifts in the Worcestershire Senior Cup.

Defending champions Swifts took an early lead through Adam Hanson’s superb low volley as Inkeberrow keeper Nicholls kept his side in the contest with a number of excellent saves.

However, after a couple of Inkberrow chances went begging, Stourport doubled their lead on the stroke of half time as Hanson scored his second of the game after the ball fell kindly into his path.

Stourport sealed the win in the second half as Daniele Reka headed home from two-yards out after being left unmarked at a corner.

And Swifts completed the scoring soon after as Ethan Tivey finished off a flowing move to knock Inkberrow out of the Senior Cup at the first hurdle.

Inkberrow are next in action away at FC Bristol on Saturday, October 21 with kick-off at 3pm at Oaklands Park.
