FOOTBALL - Kingfisher girls complete treble with County Cup final win

KINGFISHER’s under-14 girls team secured a treble after thrashing Droitwich Spa 6-2 in the Worcestershire County Cup final.

The team recently claimed the Mercian League Shield having already mathematically wrapped up the league title.

And playing in their first ever County Cup final, Kingfisher made a disastrous start as Droitwich opened the scoring after just two minutes with a shot that bounced in off the underside of the crossbar.

However, Kingfisher settled down and drew level when Millie Papper fired home following a goalmouth scramble.

And Kingfisher were soon in front through Amber Martin’s powerful strike from outside of the box.

The treble chasers extended their lead before the break when Bluebell Nourse coolly rounded the onrushing goalkeeper and finished into an empty net.

However, Droitwich responded in the second half with their second goal after a defence splitting pass was finished off by a Spa forward.

And Droitwich pinned Kingfisher in their own half for much of the second period before Bluebell settled the game with her second and third goals to complete her hat-trick.

Bluebell then turned provider in the final minute after her initial effort was saved and parried into the path of Summer Brandon who slotted home.
