JAMES Fry insists ‘nobody is going to get carried away’ after Alvechurch moved top of the table following a 1-0 win against Halesowen Town.

Substitute Dan Shaw marked his debut for the club with the winning goal on 84 minutes at Lye Meadow. The 17-year-old recently linked up with Church after signing on a short-term loan from Blackburn Rovers.

The result means Church sit top of the Southern League Premier Central on goal difference. And Fry wants his players to remain patient after securing three successive one-nil victories.

Fry said: “It was hard-fought, it was a tough game, we had to be solid and resolute and deal with any spells of pressure they built on us.

“The game needed a moment of quality and the moment of quality came during our best spell of the game.

“The boys are learning and I’m learning what it takes at this level in this league, there’s lots of teams trying to do the same thing.

“Where we’re growing as a group is we’re staying patient knowing that a moment will come and the moments are coming for us.

“It’s just mentality, nobody is going to get carried away, we know the blueprint.”

Fry introduced teenager Shaw from the bench on 75 minutes and he needed just nine minutes to make an impact.

The ball broke kindly to Shaw some 25-yards from goal and he curled a superb effort past Lewis Solly to seal a narrow victory.

Alvechurch host Stamford in a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday, September 21 with kick-off at 3pm at Lye Meadow.
