FOOTBALL - Mike Flower slams 'soulless' Redditch United performance in defeat at Quorn

MIKE Fowler branded Redditch United’s performance against Quorn in midweek as ‘soulless’.

The Reds suffered a 3-2 defeat against play-off rivals Quorn as all five goals came in a frantic opening 25 minutes at Farley Way.

United twice took the lead courtesy of goals from Fabian Reynolds and Dexter Dudley-Toole.

However, Finn O’Boyle and Ryan Beswick twice restored parity for the home side before Simeon Cobourne put Quorn ahead.

The result means Redditch sit fifth in the Southern League Premier Central table, one point clear of the chasing pack in the race for a play-off spot.

And Fowler slammed his side’s performance with the Reds unable to respond after falling behind.

Fowler said: “I’m not happy. I’m really not happy with some people not turning up. They’ve let the club down.

“The basics of running, competing, heading and kicking – just doing the average things really well.

“You have to do more than what we did. Some of the naivety and stupidity I’ve seen don’t please me at all.

“I made two subs at half time but I could have made seven or eight. Some players turned up in body but weren’t present.

“It was just an empty, soulless performance. I’m almost speechless.

“Simple instructions weren’t passed on. It’s not good enough and not what I expect or accept.”

Redditch broke the deadlock after just four minutes when Reynolds lashed a shot into the roof of the net from Liam Loughlan’s through ball.

However, Quorn equalised on 14 minutes as O’Boyle fired an effort into the left corner of the goal from Billy Kee’s lay off.

United reclaimed the lead two minutes later when Dudley-Toole rose highest to head in Reece Flanagan’s corner from the left.

Quorn drew level for a second time on 18 minutes as Beswick scored from the penalty spot after Harrison Mole fouled Cobourne in the box.

And the home side turned the game on its head four minutes later when Cobourne’s diving header trickled into the bottom left corner after O’Boyle’s initial effort came back off the crossbar.

Redditch are next in action against Stamford on Monday, December 15 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Valley Stadium.
