MIKE Fowler felt Redditch United did not carry enough of a threat at the top end of the pitch in the club’s FA Cup defeat at Buxton.
United exited the competition at the second round qualifying stage following a 3-0 defeat against the National League North side at Silverlands Stadium.
And Fowler admits Redditch needed to use the ball well when in possession due to his side’s lack of a threat up front.
Fowler said: “The players that were available to transition for us weren’t great with the ball.
“It was too safe, too slow and too predicable when we had the chance to go forward.
“And we didn’t have a super strength in the front line. There was no one with blistering pace or great strength and physicality.
“When you’re not carrying much of a threat, we need to be really good when we do have the ball.
“That’s no disrespect to the players. They’ve all good players in their own right and have had good season’s so far.”
Redditch now face the prospect of two home games in as many days against Stourbridge and Harborough Town.
And Fowler has a full-strength squad available for the two fixtures with influential striker Alex Cameron to return from suspension.
Fowler added: “We were difficult to play through. They had to go over us but they went over us quite easily.
“They moved our shape once and there were gaps. I would expect us to be moved two or three times before gaps start opening.
“We’ve missed Alex [Cameron’s] physical presence and goals and his general attitude for the team. He’ll be back next week.
“We’re back up to full strength.”
Redditch are next in action against Stourbridge on Saturday, September 20 with kick-off at 3pm at the Valley Stadium.
The Reds then host Harborough Town on Monday, September 22 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Valley Stadium.
