MIKE Fowler stressed he believes in ‘facts over feelings’ after Redditch United returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory against Stamford.
Goals from Matty Warburton and Liam Loughlan helped the Reds to a third straight home win in all competitions at the Valley Stadium.
The result means Redditch sit fourth in the Southern League Premier Central table, four points clear of the chasing pack in the race for a top-five finish.
And Fowler believes the Reds are in a strong position in the table despite not reaching their full potential just yet.
Fowler said: “People out there think I’m really harsh and grumpy and hard to please.
“The reality is, facts over feelings is what I believe in.
“The Quorn game – the first half was one of the worst defensive performances I’ve had in 28 years of football.
“[Against Stamford] there’s a reason why we kept a clean sheet and [a reason why] we could have conceded 20 the other week.
“I’m a lot happier. The squad is getting stronger, we’re in a great position [in the league].
“As much as I’m tough on them and the defending really stresses me out, they’ve kept a clean sheet so all that work is worth it.
“And they’ve put themselves in a great position without even getting anywhere near their true potential.”
Redditch took the lead on 34 minutes when Warburton scored from the penalty spot after Loughlan’s mazy run drew a foul in the box.
And the Reds sealed the points deep into injury time as Loughlan raced through and coolly found the bottom left corner of the goal when one-on-one with Stamford stopper Tom Jackson.
Redditch are next in action against AFC Sudbury on Saturday, December 20 with kick-off at 3pm at the Valley Stadium.
The game is free entry to all.
