REDDITCH Borough hosted a memorial match in memory of club stalwart Nigel Lowe alongside a female football day.

The club’s two senior women’s teams contested the inaugural Nigel Lowe Memorial Cup.

Nigel, who died in November last year, was a friend of the club who previously sponsored the team.

He helped improve the club’s facilities at their Cherry Tree Walk home.

He also helped raise the club’s profile within the Redditch community.

The Nigel Lowe Memorial Cup saw Redditch Borough Women take on Redditch Borough Ladies.

Borough Women play in the West Midlands Regional League Premier Division.

And Borough Ladies play in Division One of the Midwest Counties League.

Nigel’s daughter, Ellie-Kay lined up for Borough Ladies having played for the club over the last seven seasons.

Borough Women triumphed 4-3 in a thrilling contest.

Nigel’s wife presented the cup to winning team captain Molly Maguire.

Redditch Borough founder, Julian Workman said: “It was a fantastic day for the club which was rounded off with a great tribute to Nigel.”

Prior to the memorial game taking place, a number of the club’s junior female sides took to the pitch.

Redditch’s under-8s, under-9s, under-10s, under-12s, under-15s and under-16s all played matches.
