REDDITCH United battled to a 1-1 midweek draw against AFC Telford United following defeat at home to Stamford last weekend.

Ryan Wollacott scored a second-half equaliser to cancel out Montel Gibson’s opener in the draw with Telford at the Valley Stadium.

And after the Reds suffered their first defeat of the campaign against Stamford last weekend, boss Matt Clarke heaped praise on his side following a strong performance against Telford.

Clarke said: “After the disappointment on Saturday we asked for a reaction and we got it and I’m really pleased.

“I’m slightly disappointed that we didn’t go on and win the game because we were the better team overall but it was a big improvement.

“We fell away last season after a positive first half of the season because we didn’t have the squad depth, now we’ve got a lot of competition for places, players are fighting for their shirts.

“Sudbury are an unknown, we don’t know much about them, we’ll look at their strengths and weaknesses, it’s a long journey.

“It’ll be a tough game because of the journey, the journey is always a leveller, there are no easy games in this league.

“If we want to progress and keep climbing the table, these are places we have to go to and try and win and back up the positive performance against Telford.”

Gibson opened the scoring for Telford from the penalty spot on 28 minutes before Wollacott equalised with a finish at the back post from AJ George’s free-kick.

Against Stamford, Tremayne Charles and Ricky Miller put the visitors two goals to the good before Matty Hughes reduced the deficit only for James Blunden to seal the win for The Daniels on the hour mark.

Redditch are next in action away at AFC Sudbury on Saturday, August 19 with kick-off at 3pm at Brundon Lane.
