REDDITCH United have confirmed the return of former boss Matt Clarke following the shock resignation of manager Tim Flowers.
Clarke returns to the Valley Stadium following a near four-year spell in charge of the Reds from September 2020 to May 2024.
Former boss Flowers resigned from his role at the club just hours before United’s Southern League Premier Central clash against Stamford.
Clarke said: “This club means a lot to me, and I feel like there’s unfinished business here.
“I’m looking forward to working with the players and staff to build on what we’ve achieved in the past and push this club to even greater heights.”
Redditch chairman, David Faulkner, added: “Football is a fast-moving game, and when changes happen, it’s crucial to act quickly.
“With Tim Flowers stepping down, we knew we needed to provide clarity for both our players and supporters.
“Matt Clarke is someone who knows the club well and has a proven track record of success. We’re excited to see him return and lead the team forward.”
Clarke stepped away from his role as Redditch manager in March earlier this year, before later resigning as Reds boss in May, as he prepared to defend himself in court faced with a number of criminal charges.
However, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) dropped all of the charges against him after they offered no evidence at a hearing to dismiss the case in June.
The club later thanked Clarke for his efforts during his first spell as Reds boss after he played a huge role in helping Redditch reach the play-offs last season.
Clarke will be in the dugout for this afternoon’s match against Stamford at the Valley Stadium with kick-off at 3pm.
