REDDITCH United saw their winless run stretch to five matches following a goalless draw against Bishop’s Stortford.

The Reds were left to rue a number of missed chances in the first half as Liam Loughlan and Alex Cameron both hit the woodwork at the Valley Stadium.

And the result means Redditch sit seventh in the Southern League Premier Central table, one point outside of the play-off places.

The Reds looked to make a fast start as Morgan Owen raced onto a long throw in the box and played a ball across the face of goal with no home players waiting to tap the ball in.

Redditch somehow failed to take the lead on 14 minutes as Loughlan cut in from the right and saw his shot from 20-yards out come back off the crossbar.

The ball dropped at the feet of Cameron who somehow poked his follow-up against the crossbar from eight-yards out with the goal at his mercy.

And Cameron then saw his attempted header scooped to safety by Stortford goalkeeper Adam Hayton as the game remained goalless.

The Reds remained on top as Hayton reacted sharply to tip Loughlan’s first time shot over the crossbar.

The two players continued their personal battled right up to the end of the first period as Hayton pushed an Loughlan effort behind.

Bishop’s Stortford improved after the break as Tyrese Warmington held Obi Onyeagwara’s tame strike.

The visitors also went closest to breaking the deadlock in the second half as Warmington produced a flying one-handed stop to tip Fabio Virciglio’s curling effort behind.

Redditch are next in action against Stourbridge on Saturday, January 24 with kick-off at 3pm at the War Memorial Athletic Ground.
