MIKE Fowler felt ‘proud’ and ‘pleased’ when reflecting on his first season in charge of Redditch United, writes Stan Mills.

The Reds just missed out on a play-off spot after finishing seventh in the Southern Leauge Premier Central table.

Only goal difference denied Redditch a top-five finish despite a 5-0 win against Quorn on the final day of the season.

Fowler took United from an 18th place finish the previous campaign to the brink of the play-offs in his maiden season at the helm.

And Fowler hopes to improve on the club’s league position next term.

Fowler said: “We’ve more than achieved what targets and expectations were set of us.

“I’m really proud and pleased with what we’ve achieved.

“But have we exceeded our own individual and team targets? Probably not.

“I’m hoping not getting what we set out to do internally is a catalyst and a platform for us to achieve greater things next season.”

Fowler also led the Reds to the Worcestershire Senior Cup final and Birmingham Senior Cup semi-finals, losing on penalties on both occasions against Worcester City and Tamworth respectively.
