FOOTBALL - Redditch United pegged back at the death by Stamford

REDDITCH United conceded a last-minute goal in a 2-2 draw away at Stamford as the Reds drew in the league for the first time since October.

Matt Clarke’s side led at the break thanks to goals from Reece Flanagan and Ryan Wollacott after Rob Morgan opened the scoring for Stamford.

However, William Glennon equalsied for the home side in the final minute of regulation time at the Zeeco Stadium.

The result means Redditch sit fourth in the Southern League Premier Central table, five points behind leaders Mickleover.

Stamford took the lead on 10 minutes after the home side won a penalty following a coming together between Tendai Chitiza and AJ George in the box as Morgan duly converted the resulting spot kick.

However, Redditch equalised on 24 minutes with a penalty of their own as Flanagan made no mistake from the spot after Michael Armstrong barged Tyrell Skeen-Hamilton over in the box.

And the Reds completed the turnaround 10 minutes later when Wollacott’s header at the back post took a deflection off Glennon and looped over Stamford goalkeeper Michael Duggan.

Stamford defender Joe Burgess was fortunate to remain on the pitch soon after, after appearing to kick out at Aram Soleman with the Redditch man on the ground.

However, Stamford snatched a point at the death when Glennon smashed the ball off the underside of the crossbar and into the net from six-yards out.

That came despite furious protests from the Reds after the ball appeared to go out off a Stamford player with the referee awarding the home side a corner from which the equaliser was scored.

Redditch are next in action at home to Hitchin Town on Monday, January 15 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Valley Stadium with entry FREE to all.
