REDDITCH United advanced to the semi-finals of the Worcestershire Senior Cup with a penalty shootout win against holders Stourport Swifts.

The Reds lost to Swifts in last year’s final but exacted revenge with a 4-1 shootout win at Walshes Meadow following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Redditch will play local rivals Alvechurch in the semi-finals with the tie to take place on Monday, February 12 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Valley Stadium.

The home side almost took the lead after just two minutes as Musa Ceesay saw his header cleared off the line.

Midland Football League Premier Division side Stourport then saw an effort of their own hooked clear on the line as the teams headed into the break goalless.

Stourport broke the deadlock on 55 minutes when Ben Jevons headed in Drew Canavan’s dangerous free-kick.

However, the Reds equalised eight minutes from time as Reece Flanagan turned home Jordan Cranston’s cross at the back post.

Stourport nearly won the game at the death only for Brad Burton to make a sensational goalline clearance to send the game to penalties.

For Redditch, Danny King, Tyrell Skeen-Hamilton, Flanagan and AJ George all scored while debutant keeper Jack Price saved one effort while another Stourport player missed to send the Reds into the last four.

Redditch travel to Long Eaton United on Saturday, January 27 with kick-off at 3pm at Grange Park.
