MATT Clarke wants his Redditch United side to stop going behind in games following a 1-1 draw at Stourbridge on New Year’s Day.

The Reds saw their winless run stretch to seven matches after Johnny Johnston’s late goal rescued a point for the visitors at the War Memorial Athletic Ground.

And Clarke hopes his side’s luck will turn in their favour against relegation-threatened Lowestoft Town this weekend.

Clarke said: “I’ve been here for nine games now, we’ve gone behind in eight, we haven’t gone ahead in any of the nine games.

“We give everybody a head start against us, we show good character, we’ve drawn a lot of games.

“If we can score the first goal and cut out the mistakes, it’s something we’ve got to do.

“It means we’re drawing games rather than winning them, something will fall for us, we’re just having no luck.

“The boys have got a lot of belief, when we concede it sucks the life out of us.”

Stourbridge took the lead two minutes after half time when Jourdain Masidi headed in a cross from the right.

However, the Reds rescued a point nine minutes from time as Johnston found the net following a counter attack.

That came after United lost 2-0 at Bishop’s Stortford following a goalless draw against Banbury United on Boxing Day.

Redditch host Lowestoft on Saturday, January 4 with kick-off at 3pm at the Valley Stadium.
