REDDITCH United twice came from behind to beat a young Birmingham City side 3-2 and advance in the Birmingham Senior Cup.

Ryan Wollacott scored a late winner for the Reds after Ryan Boothe and Dylan Hart had twice drawn Redditch level at the Trico Stadium.

That came after Redditch drew 0-0 away at league leaders Tamworth last weekend to end their opponents nine-game winning run and sit fifth in the Southern League Premier Central table.

In the Cup, Redditch fell behind on six minutes when Brandon Khela fired a low driven effort into the bottom left corner beyond Kieran Boucher’s outstretched arm.

The Reds grew into the game and almost drew level when Reece Flanagan’s first-time effort was parried over by Blues goalkeeper Alfie Brooks after a neat one-two with Boothe.

From the resulting corner, Wollacott rose highest and crashed a header against the crossbar from Flanagan’s cross.

The home side went close again when Hart ran onto Max Sheaf’s through ball and chipped the keeper with Boothe just unable to make contact with the ball for an easy tap in.

Redditch grabbed a deserved equaliser on 33 minutes when Boothe’s intelligent flick at the near post found the far corner from Sheaf’s low cross.

Boucher comfortably claimed a tame chipped effort from Ben Beresford before Boothe crashed an effort into the side netting at the other end as the two teams went in level at the break.

And Boothe had another chance early in the second half when debutant Jerell Sellars found the striker inside the area only for Brooks to parry away his powerful effort.

However, Birmingham regained the lead on 55 minutes, against the run of play, when Khela produced a stunning strike into the top left corner from 30-yards out.

Matt Clarke’s side responded just four minutes later when Sheaf slipped in Hart whose initial lob was only half saved by Brooks before the Redditch man stabbed home at the second attempt.

Birmingham’s Byron Pendleton was denied by the woodwork from the edge of the penalty area before Wollacott sent a diving header just wide of the post at the other end.

However, as a penalty shootout loomed, Sheaf provided his third assist of the night with an inviting cross that was headed home by Wollacott with just three minutes left to play.

Redditch are next in action at home to Mickleover on Saturday, November 12 with kick-off at 3pm at the Trico Stadium.
