FOOTBALL - Reds let two-goal lead slip in Coalville draw

REDDITCH United let a two-goal lead slip as the Reds were held to a 2-2 draw against Coalville Town in midweek.

Redditch were on course for a memorable win at Coalville after Danny King and Reece Flanagan put the visitors two goals up before the hour mark.

However, the home side struck twice in the space of seven minutes to deny the Reds victory before Coalville had a player sent off late on at Mander Cruickshank Solicitors Stadium.

The result leaves Redditch in fifth place in the Southern League Premier Central table.

King put Redditch ahead on 35 minutes with a superb effort across goal into the bottom left corner on his league debut for the club.

The visitors extended their lead on 57 minutes when Flanagan calmly converted from the penalty spot after Bernard Mensah was fouled in the box.

Coalville halved the deficit through Thomas McGlinchey on 67 minutes before George Wilson drew the home side level on 74 minutes with a sensational goal from the edge of the penalty area.

And despite Jake Eggleton’s dismissal for two yellow cards, the Reds were unable to find a winner.

Redditch are next in action against AFC Rushden and Diamonds on Saturday, October 15 with kick-off at 3pm at Hayden Road.
