FOOTBALL - Relentless Studley put four past Newent Town

DANIEL CARTER scored twice as Studley FC eased to a 4-0 win away at Newent Town to move eight points clear at the top of the table.

Carter’s brace was added to by goals from Ben Welsh and Jake Donnelly as the Bees secured a fourth consecutive victory and clean sheet to boot.

The result means Studley are eight points clear of nearest challengers Worcester Raiders at the top of Hellenic League Division One having played one game more.

Despite Newent forcing several early corners, Studley took the lead against the run of play on 13 minutes when Welsh headed in at the back post from Jack Creswell’s corner.

And Studley worked the Newent goalkeeper on several occasions before Carter netted from 10-yards out shortly before half time after good work by Robbie Bunn.

The Bees remained on top in the second period and defender Donnelly trebled the visitors lead with a nonchalant flick on 57 minutes to score his third goal in as many games.

And Carter completed the scoring with his second of the afternoon when he found the top corner from 20-yards out.

Studley are next in action away at Cirencester Town Development on Saturday, March 12 with kick-off at 3pm at the Corinium Stadium.
