FABIAN Reynolds scored a first-half brace as Redditch United returned to winning ways in the league with a 2-0 victory against Banbury United.
Reynolds struck at either end of the first half at the Valley Stadium as the Reds banished the demons of their seven-nil drubbing against Spalding United last weekend.
The result means Redditch sit fifth in the Southern League Premier Central table, one point clear of the chasing pack in the race for a play-off place.
United made the perfect start when Reynolds saw his low effort deflect into the net after Banbury failed to properly clear a corner from the right with the game just three minutes old.
The Reds somehow failed to doubled their lead later in the first half as Alex Cameron turned Reynolds’ low ball in from the left wide from point-blank range.
However, the home side struck again five minutes before half time when Reynolds pounced on a missed interception to round the goalkeeper and double his tally for the game.
Banbury went close after the break as Luke Stokoe saw his deflected effort flash inches wide with Tyrese Warmington wrong-footed.
The Reds almost sealed the points on the hour mark when Cameron lashed a low effort into the side netting from 15-yards out.
The visitors almost reduced the deficit late on as substitute Joel Anker hit the outside of the post from a tight angle in the box after Warmington failed to gather a loose ball.
Redditch are next in action against Quorn on Tuesday, December 9 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Farley Way.
