SPORTING Club Inkberrow suffered a 3-1 home defeat against Hartpury University after the league leaders scored three late goals.

Inkberrow took the lead through Jay Higgins-Pugsley’s first-half strike only for Hartpury to score three goals in the final 16 minutes at the Inkberrow Recreation Ground.

And the result means Inkberrow sit fifth in the Hellenic League Division One table, three points inside the play-off places.

Inkberrow broke the deadlock at the end of the first half when Higgins-Pugsley drove the ball home from 12-yards out after from Harry Grant’s cut back.

Sporting frustrated the visitors throughout as home goalkeeper Jude Franks made an excellent first-half save with his feet.

However, Hartpury eventually drew level on 74 minutes as Ben Baxter placed a shot past Franks from the edge of the penalty area after Sporting failed to clear their lines.

And the visitors completed the turnaround three minutes later when Baidoo King finished on the half-volley at the back post from a corner.

With Sporting chasing an equaliser, Hartpury sealed the points on the counter attack in injury time as Leon Machisa produced a fine finish after the visitors opened up the home defence.

Sporting are next in action away at Malmesbury Victoria on Saturday, January 13 with kick-off at 3pm at the Flying Monk Ground.
