SPORTING Club Inkberrow suffered a 3-2 defeat against Kidlington Reserves in their first home game of the season following a 2-0 win at Abingdon United last weekend.
Inkberrow trailed to goals from Tyrae Njogu and Ryan Knight against Kidlington before Bill Coughlin’s header on the stroke of half time halved the deficit.
However, Kidlington struck again through Knight at the start of the second period as Tom Emblem’s injury time goal proved too little too late at Sands Road.
That came after Luke Allcock and substitute Louis Crook found the net in an impressive win against Abingdon at Northcourt Road.
The results mean Inkberrow sit seventh in the Hellenic League Division One table after four fixtures.
More than 200 spectators were at Sands Road for Inkberrow’s first home game as a step six club.
However, the home side fell behind on 12 minutes when Njogu’s free-kick deflected past Inkberrow goalkeeper Jude Franks.
And Kidlington doubled their lead five minutes before half time as Knight pounced on a poor backpass to score after Allcock was denied at the other end for Inkberrow.
However, the hosts kept themselves in the game just before half time when Coughlin headed home Max-Emilios Angelides’ corner.
The visitors restored their two-goal lead on 47 minutes as Knight grabbed his second of the game with a neat finish at the near post.
Inkberrow eventually reduced the deficit in injury time as Emblem fired home from 18-yards out after cutting in from the left but were unable to find an equaliser in the remaining minutes.
That came after Inkberrow claimed a second successive away win at Abingdon.
After a goalless first half, the visitors took the lead on 67 minutes when Alcock provided a calm finish from Angelides’ cutback.
And Inkberrow’s teenage keeper Franks made a stunning save in injury time to keep his side ahead.
The visitors sealed the win at the death as 16-year-old substitute Crook scored his first senior goal from Harry Grant’s pass.
Inkberrow are next in action at home to Clanfield 85 on Tuesday, August 22 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Sands Road.
