SPORTING Club Inkberrow thrashed Southam United 4-0 before slipping to a surprise 3-0 home defeat against Shortwood United in midweek.

Against Southam, loanee Dan-Lewis Bamana scored twice off the bench after goals from Gregor Guy and Max-Emilios Angelides put Inkberrow in command at Sands Road.

However, the Berrow saw their play-off hopes take a blow in midweek as Shortwood took all three points thanks to goals from Jack Gardner, Finlay Byrnes and Daniel Gayner.

And the results mean Inkberrow sit fourth in the Hellenic League Division One table, three points clear of the chasing pack in the race for a play-off place.

The game against Southam was Inkberrow’s first at home in over a month, following a series of postponements.

And the hosts dealt with the windy conditions well as Oliver Smith fired wide when well-placed before the same player chipped over the bar as the first half ended goalless.

However, Inkberrow eventually broke the deadlock on the hour mark when Guy’s stunning free-kick went in off the underside of the crossbar.

And Guy then turned provider as he delivered a perfectly weighted pass to Angelides who coolly lifted the ball over the Southam goalkeeper to double the home side’s lead.

Debutant Bamana all but sealed the points with a calm finish soon after before he completed the scoring with his second of the game in the final minute as he drilled the ball home from 10-yards out.

Inkberrow are next in action away at Kidlington Reserves on Saturday, March 16 with kick-off at 3pm at Yarnton Road.
