SPORTING Club Inkberrow claimed their second league win of the season before suffering a heavy defeat on the road in midweek.

Inkberrow beat Brixham 1-0 at Sands Road last weekend to claim just a second league win of the campaign.

However, Sporting then suffered a 5-1 defeat at Portishead Town at Bristol Road.

The results mean Sporting sit in the Southern League Division One South relegation zone, inside the drop zone on goal difference.

Sporting claimed a much-needed win against Brixham as Jay Higgins-Pugsley’s goal proved decisive.

Higgins-Pugsley scored the game’s only goal on 33 minutes when he finished on the rebound after Noah Rubio’s initial effort hit the crossbar.

Inkberrow defender Will Coughlin saw red on the stroke of half time after he pulled James Moxon to the ground in the box.

However, Sporting goalkeeper Gabriel Bajrami saved the resulting penalty to keep the home side in front.

And Inkberrow held on despite playing with a man less for the entirety of the second half.

However, Sporting then suffered a heavy defeat at Portishead as Kyle Egan netted a hat-trick for the home side.

Further goals from Lucas Vowles and Jack Thorne saw the hosts take a five-goal lead before Louis Crook netted a late consolation for the visitors.

Sporting Club Inkberrow host Stratford Town in the FA Trophy on Saturday, October 4 with kick-off at 3pm at Sands Road.
