SPORTING Club Inkberrow maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a thrilling 4-2 win against Slimbridge.

An end-to-end first half saw both teams score twice before an own goal and Will Skelton strike after the break sealed the points for Sporting at Thornhill Park.

And both teams finished the game with 10-men following a late altercation between the two sides.

The result means Inkberrow sit third in the Hellenic League Premier Division table after five matches.

Inkberrow took the lead on eight minutes when Jay Higgins-Pugsley rolled a shot in the bottom left corner from Alex Griffiths’ pass.

However, Slimbridge equalised five minutes later courtesy of Theo Clayson’s strike.

The visitors reclaimed the lead on 23 minutes through an own goal after good work from Gregor Guy and Bill Coughlin only for Slimbridge to draw level for a second time three minutes later as Samuel Blackie finished well.

Inkberrow went in front for the third time on 52 minutes when Slimbridge’s Charlie Hitchings turned Tom Emblem’s ball across the box into his own net.

And Skelton made sure of the points on 59 minutes after he beat the offside trap and fired a shot into the bottom left corner.

However, both teams finished the game with 10-men with Jack Tolley dismissed for Sporting and Hitchings for Slimbridge following a skirmish.

Sporting Club Inkberrow are next in action against Worcester Raiders on Monday, August 26 with kick-off at 3pm at Sands Road.
