SPORTING Club Inkberrow returned to winning ways with a convincing 4-2 victory against relegation-threatened Newent Town.
Goals from Joel Steer, Declan Green, Jay Higgins-Pugsley and Nathan Benson earned Sporting the points at the Inkberrow Recreation Ground.
The result means Inkberrow sit fifth in the Hellenic League Division One play-off places and have a game in-hand on FC Bristol who sit directly below them in the table.
Inkberrow took command of the game when Steer broke the deadlock with a composed finish from 25-yards out before Green’s powerful effort found the net soon after.
However, Newent halved the deficit before the break with a deflected goal with their first meaningful attack of the game.
The home side put the game to bed with two quickfire goals at the start of the second period as Higgins-Pugsley made it three before Benson sealed the points with a magnificent effort into an empty net from inside his own half.
Newent scored a consolation goal late on but it proved too little too late as the home side secured another crucial three points.
Inkberrow are next in action at home to FC Stratford on Tuesday, January 23 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Inkberrow Recreation Ground.
