SPORTING Club Inkberrow slipped to a surprise 1-0 defeat away at lowly Chipping Sodbury Town in their first league game for several weeks.
Despite creating a number of chances to draw level, after falling behind on 20 minutes, Inkberrow were unable to find an equaliser at The Ridings.
And the result means Inkberrow sit fifth in the Hellenic League Division One table, five points inside the play-off places.
Sporting goalkeeper Jude Franks made a superb low save to keep out an early Sodbury effort as the home side made a bright start.
However, Sodbury broke the deadlock on 20 minutes as Callum Ball poked home close range after Sporting failed to deal with a cross.
Sporting spurned several opportunities to equalise as Sodbury defended valiantly to move off the bottom of the table.
Inkberrow are next in action at home to Devizes Town on Saturday, December 23 with kick-off at 3pm at the Inkberrow Recreation Ground.
