FOOTBALL - Studley FC held to goalless draw by Cheltenham Saracens

STUDLEY FC’s title charge faltered after they were held to a goalless draw by Cheltenham Saracens, dropping points for the first time in eight matches.

Alfie Bloomer hit the bar for Studley in the second-half which was as close as the visitors came to finding a winner.

The result means Studley remain second in the Hellenic League Division One, three points behind Worcester Raiders with two games in-hand.

Studley’s managers were presented with the Team of the Month award for December prior to kick-off, having won all four of their matches.

The away side had the first opportunity on five minutes only for Dale Edwards to be squeezed out as the angle became too tight.

And they created another chance on 15 minutes when Mark Magee shot over when well-placed.

Magee came close again five minutes later when he forced the Cheltenham goalkeeper to push his effort around the post before the hosts cleared off the line from the resulting corner.

The home side’s only effort of note in the first-half came on 36 minutes and sailed well over the crossbar as the teams went into the break all square.

Cheltenham improved in the second-half with both defences on top and chances at a premium before Bloomer struck the bar from 20-yards out.

Studley are next in action away at Malmesbury Victoria on Saturday, February 5 with kick-off at 3pm at the Flying Monk Ground.
