DAN Sweeney’s late goal earned Alvechurch their first win of the season following a 2-1 victory against Biggleswade Town.

Sweeney struck two minutes from time to win the game for Church after cancelling out Edward Panter’s opener earlier in the second half at Lye Meadow.

And Alvechurch boss Fry hopes his side can take the positives from their first few games of the season into their upcoming fixtures.

Fry said: “I’m delighted with the three points, we dominated the game from start to finish, their goal came against the run of play.

“We’ve got the quality in the dressing room to take games deep if we need to, we stuck at it and we’ve done everything right to win the game and get over the line.

“We’ve been the better team in every game this season but we’ve lacked that cutting edge and ruthlessness in the top third. We looked more assured in the top third.

“The games come thick and fast in the next few weeks but we’ve got to take the positives and make sure they snowball into the rest of the fixtures.”

Church fell behind on 18 minutes when Panter lashed home from 10-yards out after the hosts failed to deal with Cyrus Babaie-Gumbs’s low ball in from the right.

However, the home side dominated thereafter and deservedly drew level on 48 minutes as Sweeney showed great composure to cut in from the left and fire a shot through the legs of the goalkeeper.

And Sweeney doubled his tally for the game with two minutes left to play when he poked the ball past a couple of defenders before smashing home via the aid of the post from close range.

Alvechurch are next in action away at Royston Town on Saturday, August 24 with kick-off at 3pm at Garden Walk.
