TEENAGE midfielder Billy Fielding has made history after accepting and signing a contract to play for Redditch United for the remainder of the season.
The 18-year-old becomes the club’s first-ever football and education student to sign a first team contract with the Reds.
United rewarded Fielding with a contract following a string of consistent performances in league and cup fixtures for the first team.
Redditch United first team and academy manager, Mike Fowler said: “I’m absolutely delighted for Billy to get his reward of signing a new contract.
“It’s fully deserved as he’s been immense all season with fantastic performances and has shown maturity beyond his years.
“We’re really excited to see what he can achieve over the next couple of seasons.
“I’ve worked with Billy for a long time and know him really well.
“I’ve always known he’s had this potential, but to see him realise it at 18-years-old at Step Three is phenomenal, so it’s fantastic news for everyone.”
Fielding is on the club’s HND (Higher National Diploma) course in partnership with Heart of Worcestershire College.
He trains and plays full-time within the club’s football and education programme whilst studying for a university-level degree.
