JOE Willis scored a quickfire brace as Alvechurch battled to a 2-1 pre-season victory away at Stafford Rangers.

Willis netted twice inside the first 10 minutes to put Alvechurch in command at the Stan Robinson Stadium.

However, the Step Four swiftly reduced the deficit courtesy of Scott Wara’s header.

Church held on to secure a fourth pre-season win from five matches.

Tim Flowers’ side made the perfect start as Willis hooked a superb effort into the bottom right corner from the left-hand side of the penalty area inside 60 seconds.

And Church then won a penalty on nine minutes after a Stafford defender dragged Kieran Wakefield to the ground in the box.

Willis stepped up to double Church’s lead as he coolly sent the Stafford goalkeeper the wrong way from the penalty spot with an effort into the top right corner.

However, the hosts responded on 12 minutes when Wara rose highest to head in a free-kick from the left from five-yards out.

Alvechurch are next in action against Hereford on Tuesday, July 29 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Lye Meadow.
