Four-way title scrap - The Redditch Standard

Four-way title scrap

Redditch Editorial 14th Mar, 2019 Updated: 14th Mar, 2019   0

REDDITCH are now one of four teams level on points at the top of West Midlands Division One as the race for promotion hots up with just three matches remaining.

Whilst the Kingfishers were on their way to a 2-1 victory at Aldridge & Walsall, Stourport 2nds were disposing of leaders Market Drayton 5-2 – leaving Market Drayton, Ludlow, Redditch and Stourport separated by goal difference only with all on 41 points.

Not for the first time this season, Redditch found themselves with all of the work to do as they went 1-0 down from a penalty corner early on in the game.

However, good work on the left eventually set up Dan Waite to fire the ball across goal towards the back post for Pete Dawson to score the equaliser from close range.

Dawson then got his second before half-time with a shot which deflected off of a defender and into the net.

The second half produced very few chances for Redditch as Aldridge & Walsall pushed forward but the visitors defended bravely to keep the hosts at bay.

Redditch host Bromsgrove on Saturday (1.30pm) before finishing the campaign against promotion rivals Market Drayton (away) and Ludlow (home).
