REDDITCH Futsal under-14’s, based at Trinity High School, had a visit from England under-19’s futsal player Ollie Desborough.
Desborough joined Redditch’s youngsters on court during training to provide inspiration and shared stories of his experience in the sport including the EURO 2023 futsal finals in Lithuania.
And Desborough wished Redditch well with the club set to enter the England Futsal National Youth Cup regional qualifiers.
Desborough said: “It is great to see youngsters having the chance to play futsal locally.
“Futsal is a growing sport in this country and has the potential to improve players technical skills. I wish the boys all the best in the upcoming tournament and expect them to do well.”
Established in 2022, Redditch United under-14’s coach Adam Freeth started Redditch Futsal after undertaking his UEFA National Futsal Course.
The group now includes both under-13 and under-14 players from across the region.
And Redditch will have the chance to play in the under-14’s category at the National Finals held at St George’s Park – the FA’s national football centre – should they progress through the regional qualifiers.
The national final will be the first televised youth Futsal competition in England.
Freeth said: “We have a cracking, talented and competitive group of lads who are a real pleasure to coach, they have adapted and developed brilliantly to the game of futsal in such a short space of time.
“We have also noticed the progress in technical skills and confidence in each lad transfer to their 11-a-side game too. The National Youth Cup will be a great experience for the local lads.”
