REDDITCH Hockey Club’s men’s first team managed a draw while the ladies suffered defeat as the club endured mixed results across their respective teams.
The men’s first team battled to a hard-fought 3-3 draw to remain in second place in the league ahead of a top the table clash away at Stourport with Jake Beard, Josh Brown and Harrison Young all on target.
Elsewhere, the ladies first team featured seven 2nds players against Edgbaston as the teams played out a goalless first half.
However, Edgbaston took the lead in the second half courtesy of a fine individual goal before eventually claiming a 3-0 success, catching Redditch out on the counter attack.
The men’s second team claimed an impressive 3-1 win away at West Brom 2nds as first-half goals from Richard Sellors, Ethan Smith and Miller G proved decisive while the home side scored a consolation goal after Ben Bryant made a triple save in the Redditch goal.
Redditch’s men’s third team produced a stunning performance to move top of the table with a 5-0 win against previous leaders Worcester 6ths.
After a strong start, Ben McFarland opened the scoring before Hadley K doubled Redditch’s lead and the former scored his second goal of the game after a succession of penalty corners.
Redditch keeper Aryn W then made a good double save to deny Worcester from a penalty corner, his only two touches in the game.
And Tom Edney extended Redditch’s lead in the second half with a superb reverse hit before Marshall completed the scoring with a calm finish to secure a fifth successive victory.
Lastly, the men’s fourth team suffered a 4-1 defeat despite Russ Baldwin scoring a magnificent solo goal on his 55th birthday,
Baldwin struck with Redditch already three goals down, heading forward from the push and nutmegging an opposition player before powering through a couple of tackles and rounding the keeper to score.
