REDDITCH Hockey Club’s first team goalkeeper Dee McDowell has earned a call-up to the Wales over-45’s ladies masters squad.

The club returned to action following the Christmas break as the ladies first team romped to a 6-1 win away at Bridgnorth to secure their biggest victory of the season.

Jo Cook scored a hat-trick with further goals from Sophie Evans, Marie-Ann Irons and Teagan Guilfoyle as Bridgnorth’s keeper made a number of saves to prevent Redditch from adding to their lead.

Elsewhere, the ladies second team lost 2-1 at Bournville 2nds with Becki Clarke on target for Redditch from a penalty corner.

The men’s first team moved up the table with a 3-1 win against University of Birmingham 4ths while the second team drew 2-2 with Uni of B’ham 6ths to remain three points clear of their closest rivals at the top.

And the second team trailed by two goals early on before Ethan Smith’s deflected strike reduced the deficit heading into the break.

Josh Checkley’s reverse stick goal drew Redditch level to set up a tense finale as the game ended all square with the visitors now unbeaten in their last 13 matches.

The men’s third team lead their division by seven points after a dominant 6-1 win against Droitwich Spa 3rds.

Redditch made a fast start and took the lead on four minutes when Ben McFarland scored the opening goal before Marshall Glen struck from a penalty corner.

Droitwich responded with a penalty corner goal of their own before the break only for Redditch to take the game away from their opponents in the second half.

Antony Brooks scored twice to put Redditch in command before McFarland grabbed his second goal of the game following a goalmouth scramble and Glen completed the scoring from a well-worked penalty corner.

The men’s fourth team lost 5-0 away at Tamworth 3rds, conceding four first-half goals, despite the best efforts of goalkeeper Steve Fletcher.
