REDDITCH Hockey Club’s men’s first team remain top of the table while the second team’s long unbeaten run finally came to an end.

The men’s first team remain top of the Midlands Division Three West League table after Mike Richardson scored the winning goal with a deflected shot against Bridgnorth 1sts.

However, the men’s second team saw their 15-game unbeaten run come to an end against West Brom 2nds in a narrow 3-2 defeat.

Redditch trailed to two quickfire goals only to level the game thanks to a brace of short corner strikes from Josh Checkley.

However, after Redditch missed a number of good chances to win the game, West Brom stole the points with the game’s fifth goal.

The ladies first team had a midweek game against league leaders Hampton-in-Arden before then playing away at Edgbaston 2nds on the Commonwealth Games pitches at the University of Birmingham.

Redditch dominated for long periods in both fixtures but were unable to convert pressure into goals and were punished on the counter attack when chasing the game.

The men’s third team suffered a 1-0 defeat against Worcester 6ths while the fourth team lost 4-0 against Stratford with a bare squad of just 11 players.

The club’s ladies development team comprised of juniors, development players who have completed Back 2 Hockey sessions and members of the ladies 2nds team.

And Bea Salter and Louise Jennings were on target in a 2-1 win against Barford Tigers Development ladies with the focus of the game to integrate new and returning players into a match environment with more experienced squad members.

Redditch Badgers secured an impressive 4-0 win against Droitwich and took the lead when Harry B converted from the top of the D following a series of penalty corners.

The Badgers extended their lead as Ethan C reacted quickest to sweep home a rebound before debutant Jack S slotted home and Harry B’s reverse stick shot into the bottom corner completed the scoring.

Lastly, the club’s under-12 and under-14 produced some brilliant performances at their respective monthly Worcestershire tournaments.

Both under-12’s teams won all of their games while the under-14’s won three and lost one as several new players took to the field for the first time.
