REDDITCH Hockey Club’s men’s third team secured the title in style with a number of the club’s teams one win from being crowned champions.

The men’s third team claimed an emphatic 6-2 win against a youthful Bridgnorth 5ths to win the title in their division.

Despite falling behind, Redditch equalised before the break when Martyn Strong knocked the ball past the onrushing Bridgnorth goalkeeper and calmly finished into an empty net.

A controversial second goal from John put Redditch into the lead before Strong doubled his tally for the game only for Bridgnorth to close the gap back to a single goal.

However, a stunning hat-trick from Marshall Glen helped Redditch to a comfortable win and confirmed the club’s promotion as league champions.

The men’s first team suffered a 3-1 defeat away at Edgbaston 1sts and can secure promotion as champions with victory in their final game against Old Halesonians

Elsewhere, the men’s second team eased to a 5-1 win against Kingswinford 2nds to move one victory away from securing the title.

Richard Sellors netted a brace with further goals from Ant Brookes, Josh Checkley and James Makin.

The men’s 4th team lost 5-1 against Stratford as midfielder Richard Randle scored Redditch’s only goal early in the second half.

Elsewhere, the ladies first team were without several players for their trip to league leaders Hampton-in-Arden.

A bare eleven produced an impressive performance despite slipping to their heaviest defeat of the season.

The ladies second team took on Worcester, following a fiery clash between the two teams earlier in the season, as captain Louise Jennings opened the scoring with a strike into the bottom right corner.

And Redditch added to their lead in the second half with goals from Sophie E and Frankie G.
