REDDITCH Hockey Club’s first teams both claimed important wins as the men triumphed against local rivals Bromsgrove while the ladies saw off Harborne.

The men’s second team also defeated Bromsgrove as they bounced back from their first loss of the season against West Brom last time out in style.

A rocket from central midfielder Ant Brookes put Redditch into the lead after he smashed the ball into the top left corner.

And Josh Checkley doubled the away side’s lead with a clinical finish into the side netting after excellent work from John Manison who drew in a number of Bromsgrove defenders.

Redditch went into the break three goals ahead when Ethan Smith provided a cool finish to put the league leaders in control.

The away side continued to dominate in the second half as Manison added Reditch’s fourth goal from a well-worked short corner as he rounded a defender before scoring with a reverse stick finish.

And Checkley completed the scoring with his second of the game from another short corner after good play from James Makin in the attacking zone.

However, the men’s development team suffered a 5-1 defeat on the road at Old Silhillians as the victors took a commanding three-goal lead into the break.

Redditch’s Russ Baldwin scored his side’s only goal on his return from injury after good link-up play between Jacob B and Arran S while Steve Fletcher kept the scoreline down with a number of saves in goal.
