STUDLEY FC needed a penalty shootout to beat Pershore Town and advance to the third round of the Bluefin Sports Cup.

The Bees looked set for a safe passage into the next round through Sean Brain’s penalty only for Pershore to equalise 10 minutes into added time to send the game to a shootout.

And Brendon Bunn was the hero for Studley after he saved Pershore’s first spot kick with the Bees converting all five of their penalties to win 5-3 at the Community Stadium.

Neither keeper was troubled in a dull first half before Studley’s Sam Jackson was pulled down in the box from Jake Bloomer’s long throw on the stroke of half time.

And Brain converted the resulting penalty to send the Bees into the break with a half time lead.

Despite Pershore dominating the ball in the second period, Studley almost doubled their lead when Harvey Smith struck the post.

However, the home side continued to press for an equaliser and eventually got their reward when Sam Clark rose highest to head home from a corner deep into injury time.

Studley held their nerve in the shootout, converting all five of their spot kicks, with Bunn’s save from Aidan Clark’s penalty proving decisive.

The Bees are next in action away at Tuffley Rovers on Saturday, April 2 with kick-off at 3pm at Glevum Park.
