Kingfishers building momentum

REDDITCH racked up their third successive West Midlands Division One victory as they put hosts Bournville 2nds to the sword with a 5-1 success on Saturday.

The win lifted the Kingfishers into fourth place – three points adrift of the top three who all have 13 points – heading into Saturday’s (1.30pm) visit of Shrewsbury.

Redditch were expecting a tough game against Bournville who, prior to this fixture, had conceded just three goals in their previous four matches.

However, within nine minutes, Redditch were 3-0 up. The first goal came from leading scorer Jacob Beard who deflected home for his fifth of the season and the second quickly followed from Andy Billingham’s short corner strike.

Dan Waite flicked home the third after getting on the end of captain Adrian Young’s through ball from deep.

With Redditch pressing high, Bournville did have chances, particularly on the counter-attack, but a strike from Dan Jakeman put Redditch 4-0 up at half-time.

Bournville started the second half on the attack and seemed more settled. They scored from a short corner to put just an element of worry into the Redditch team, but a man of the match performance from Harry Williams who showed composure in defence and a couple of fine saves from keeper Joe Cardy steadied the ship.

The Kingfishers’ fifth goal was scored by Pete Dawson as Redditch changed to a more balanced formation to close out the game.
