Redditch Editorial 10th May, 2019   0

GHULAM Moyhuddin starred with bat and ball as Redditch Entaco CC continued their excellent start in the Worcestershire League Premier Division with a four-wicket victory at neighbours Astwood Bank.

Moyhuddin led the bowling attack with 4-38 to help dismiss the Bank for 141.

Then when Redditch’s victory challenge stuttered at 78-6 Moyhuddin and Haris Ali took on the Bank bowling attack and a decisive partnership of 66 steered Redditch home.

Moyhuddin hit a fine 38 not out and Ali scored 25.

Victory leaves Redditch in second place in the table, though Chaddesley Corbett sit top with a 100 per cent winning record so far after four matches.

On Saturday, Redditch will be looking to stretch their winning run to three matches as Stourport-on-Severn are the visitors to Bromsgrove Road and skipper Russell Southwick has named an unchanged side for the fixture.

Southwick called correctly at Astwood Bank last week and inserted the home side into bat and his pace bowlers Waqas Ali (2-46). Noman Chaudhry (3-17) and Moyhuddin (4-38) did the damage as the Bank were dismissed for just 141.

Only a fine partnership of 60 for the eighth wicket between Mike Desmond (28) and Tom Harris (23) made the score more respectable.

In reply, Redditch lost Tom Field early on and found runs hard to come by as the Bank bounced back with off spinner Dan Taylor doing the damage.

Opener Olly Mason continued his good form scoring a fine 37 but Southwick, Brown, Rizwan Chaudhry and Mo Sarfraz all went cheaply. At drinks Redditch were deep in trouble at 78-6 as the Bank bounced back in fine style but Moyhuddin and Ali stemmed the tide with their match-winning stand.

Taylor finished with 5-27 off 13 overs.

Talented bowler Haleem Basharatt claimed an astonishing eight wickets for just eight runs as Redditch 2nds had a magnificent victory against visitors Barnards Green on Saturday.

Barnards Green were rolled over for just 49 as Redditch eased to a 10-wickets victory. Basharatt’s efforts earned him the Worcestershire performance of the week award.

Only Harvey Smedley (23) got into double figures for Barnards Green as first-change bowler Basharatt ripped through the batting, with seven of his wickets clean bowled to finish with figures of 4-2-8-8.

In reply Redditch wasted no time in scoring the runs as Nick Fowkes (32) and James Bevan (12) gave them a 10-wicket success after 10 overs.

Tomorrow, the 2nds travel away to Netherton.

Redditch 3rds completed an excellent day for the club as they opened up their Wrocestershire League Division 10 campaign with a one-wicket victory away against Harborne 5ths.

The Kingfishers bowled the home side out for 133 with Tom Kitching leading the way with four wickets.

In reply Redditch made hard work of the chase and Kitching completed a good day with a fine 41 as they sneaked home in the last over.

Tomorrow the 3rds travel away to Halesowen 4ths.

The 4ths begin their Division 12 campaign tomorrow with a home fixture against Evesham 3rds at Studley Sports & Social Club.

Redditch opened up their Arden Sunday League season with a fine 70-runs victory against Weoley Hill.

Batting first, Redditch scored 211-9 off their 40 overs, Chris Brown leading the way with 63 and Sahil Mahmood with an excellent 55.

In reply Weoley Hill lost early wickets to slip to 12-3 and were always in trouble. Mahmood completed a man-of-the-match performance with 2-6 off eight overs and two fine catches as their opponents were dismissed for 141.

On Sunday Redditch make the short trip to Alvechurch.
